GnB Underbore barrel kit

We've been busy putting some new barrel ideas together. This product is a culmination of those ideas along with some good ole fashioned barrel precision.

Barrel specifications:

  • Each kit features an 8" control bore (barrel back).
  • Barrel tip utilizes 30º angled porting
  • Tip porting grows progressively tighter toward the front
  • Each barrel back is engraved with its bore size
  • Each component is bore-honed using a superabrasive arbor to produce a microscopic cross hatch; smooth as glass.

Each barrel kit includes the following:

  • Barrel backs: 0.680, 0.685, and 0.690
  • Barrel front: assembled length of 14" (35.5-cm)
  • Currently available for Autococker-threaded markers

Ordering

Our distributor Thirty First Outfitters is the sole distributor in the United States. We have only manufactured 100 complete barrel kits for this initial run.
The price of each barrel kit is $110

Note: the barrel front is currently available in silver only.

Technical Information

Everyone knows there are many factors affecting the flight of a ball in motion. The barrel is obviously the focal point of a ball as it accelerates up to its desired velocity. Barrels aren't the most unique part of a marker, but we feel there are still ways they can be improved beyond the standard processes.

We're not alone in our ideas, either. This barrel was designed hand-in-hand with the crew at PunkWorks. They have done considerable tests on every aspect of barrels, including but not limited to bore size, barrel back length, front tip length, and any combination of them. Best of all, although PunkWorks does their testing independantly, we are the first ones to use this information to actually improve a barrel.

To that end we created the GnB Underbore barrel kit. Its main feature is the unusually-long control bore (8 inches) which is somewhat uncommon in other paintball markers. While it is true that some companies have tested control bore length in the past, most of those tests were done on high-pressure markers which were common at the time. Currently, there are very few high-pressure systems still being used in markers so we felt a redesign based on the low-pressure needs is more than necessary.

The second main change we are trying to push with this barrel is the act of underboring. In the past players have tried to size their barrel bores larger than the paintballs being pushed through them. Underboring is just the opposite - sizing your barrel slightly under the paintball diameter. In the past this hasn't always worked but it was due largely to the quality of paint rather than the act of underboring itself. Current-day paintballs are more resilient and able to be underbored with great success.

We have found through our own tests that this special combination of features decreases the air required to shoot the same ball at the same velocity. The graphs below show some of those tests.

The data clearly shows the GnB Underbore system providing a higher velocity than a standard barrel without underboring. Efficiency is increased, sound signature is decreased, and paint breakage remains as low as ever. It's east to take advantage of these characteristics while using our kit, something you likely cannot do unless you have a barrel specifically designed for the task.
